Das Stück spielt im nördlichen Dubliner Vorort Barrytown, in dem auch weitere Romane des Autors spielen. In Brownbread entführen drei junge Männer einen Bischof, werden sich aber bald - als nämlich die US-Marines einmarschieren -, dass ihr brillantes Abenteuer nichts anderes als ein kolossaler Fehler ist.

 

 

This play from novelist and screenwriter Roddy Doyle is set in the North Dublin suburb of Barrytown. Three young men kidnap a bishop but soon come to realize--when the U.S. Marines invade--that their brilliant adventure is nothing more than a colossal mistake.​
